The Cancer Continuum

Cancer touches us all, whether directly or indirectly. Based on current incidence rates, 39% of Canadian women and 44% of Canadian men will develop cancer during their lifetime. In an effort to stay well or to manage chronic diseases such as cancer, more and more Canadians are exploring a wide range of natural, complementary and alternative therapies. What do we know about the efficacy of these products and therapies, and their potential role in the prevention and management of cancer?

The Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada is proud to present:

The Cancer Continuum is sponsored by:

Media Partners:

According to a 2006 Fraser Institute study, 74% of Canadians are currently using some form of complementary and alternative health care – ranging from vitamins and herbs to acupuncture and massage therapy – to complement the conventional health care they receive. What is the potential role of natural health approaches to help prevent and treat cancers, manage the side effects of conventional treatments, and extend or improve quality of life? What is the scientific evidence behind many of the popular – and some of the lesser known – natural health products and complementary therapies being marketed in connection with cancer?

The Cancer Continuum brings together an impressive roster of leading physicians, specialists, researchers, naturopaths and other complementary practitioners to discuss and debate these essential questions across the entire continuum of cancer care, from prevention and preventing cancer recurrence, to treatment, management and palliative care.

This groundbreaking educational event is designed for the public, as well as health professionals from across the spectrum of conventional and complementary/integrative health care. Material is presented to be valuable to a wide audience -- the general public will come away with concrete knowledge and simple "take home messages" they can begin implementing within their own lifestyle immediately, while health professionals will benefit from the more detailed presentation materials and references provided.

The Cancer Continuum builds on the success of our first annual educational event, The Immunity Challenge, held October 28, 2006 at the University of Toronto. This year we have added a forum and panel discussion on Friday evening, as well as breakout sessions on Saturday afternoon in order to explore a broader range of topics.

This is an important event you won’t want to miss!

Proceeds from the event will support further educational and research initiatives of the
Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada .
