Aileen Burford-Mason, PhD
Aileen Burford-Mason is an immunologist and independent research analyst with a special interest in the biological basis of complementary medical practices, and the scientific evidence for their use. She has a private practice as a biochemical nutrition consultant, where she specializes in designing diet and vitamin and mineral supplement regimes. She lectures to the general public and to medical and allied health professionals on nutritional research as it applies to disease prevention, stress reduction and the immune system.
Aileen graduated from University College, Dublin, Ireland and later received a Ph.D. in immunology in the UK. Formerly Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, she was Director of a Cancer Research Laboratory at The Toronto Hospital Research Institute, and is an experienced medical researcher. Her many research papers have been published in leading medical and scientific journals, and cover diverse medical and scientific areas, including immunology, gastroenterology, cancer, AIDS, microbiology, and pathology.
Aileen has a strong interest in consumers' health issues, especially as they relate to complementary and alternative healthcare. Currently she holds the position of Director of Scientific Affairs for the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada (AFC). The AFC is a charitable foundation which sponsors acupuncture research at leading Canadian universities and is a founding partner in the Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada.
